Distribution of Cloth Masks from the National Government

In the “Emergency Economic Measures to Cope with COVID-19” (Cabinet Decision of April 7, 2020), the government decided to distribute two cloth masks per address.

Distribution of Cloth Masks to All Households

Two cloth masks per address will be distributed using the system for distribution to all addresses.

Distribution Details

A set of the following items wrapped in a transparent bag will be delivered.

  • Cloth masks (Gauze mask): 2 pieces (individual packaging)
  • Notice (A4 folded in half to A5): 1 sheet

Distribution Location and Period

As soon as the government secures cloth masks from manufacturers, they will be distributed using the Japan Post’s system for distribution to all addresses. Delivery will begin from the prefectures with the highest number of infected people.
In the future, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare will provide information on the delivery status and delivery schedule for each prefecture on its website regarding COVID-19.

If You Have not Received Masks

Applications for delivery of masks from those who have not received the package will be accepted on the special page accessible from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website, and masks will be delivered as soon as possible. Applications for delivery will be accepted from the middle of May, starting from the prefectures where delivery to all households has been completed.

Additional distribution to two-household homes, etc.

We are also considering starting to accept applications for additional masks after mid-May. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare will announce the details later.
