June is season of “Tsuyu (the rainy season)” in Japan.
In June, many regions of Japan experience the rainy season, known as “Tsuyu.” There will be more cloudy and rainy days, and humidity will rise. In addition, it’s the time of year when umbrellas and raincoats come in handy.
On the other hand, the rain-drenched hydrangeas bloom beautifully, adding a delightful touch to the quintessentially Japanese scenery.
In June, there is a seasonal wardrobe change, and many schools and companies switch to summer uniforms. In addition, shrines hold an event called “Nagoshi no Harae” during which people purify themselves of the impurities accumulated over the past six months and pray for good health.
By the way, there are no national holidays in June unfortunately.
Third Sunday in June: Father’s Day
Father’s Day in Japan is the third Sunday in June.
Maybe it’s because there aren’t many events in June, but many people seem to forget about Father’s Day.
