The national census is the country’s most important statistical survey of all people living in Japan.

Census respondents
All persons and households (including foreign residents) living in Japan as of October 1, 2025 are eligible.
Census survey method
From Saturday, September 20, surveyors will visit each household to distribute survey forms and other materials.
Response method
Responses via internet
Response via Smartphone
You can log in automatically by scanning the QR code on the Internet response form that was distributed.
Response by PC
Access the URL provided in the Internet response request form and enter your “login ID” and “access key.”
Response by the paper questionnaire
Please mail the completed questionnaire (paper) or give it to the researcher.
Deadline for responses
Please respond by Wednesday, October 8, 2025. If you do not respond, a researcher will visit you again in mid-October.
Conducted in accordance with the law
The law stipulates that a census must be conducted every five years. Furthermore, the information provided on the census form is kept confidential.
